Help Shelter Pets cofounder Jim Fontaine spending quality time with his Miniature Pinscher Jacquay

Help Shelter Pets supports animal shelters that meet any of the following criteria:

  1. Have achieved the status of being a no-kill shelter
  2. Have a plan in place to become a no-kill shelter within 5 years
  3. Have a formal policy in place that disallows euthanasia for healthy animals due to space or for animals with a treatable illness

This means no healthy dog or cat is ever euthanized simply because there is no room for it or because it is sick with a treatable illness.

Every animal deserves to have a good life, and by supporting these shelters, we hope to encourage more shelters to become no-kill or adopt policies that ensure that every healthy animal or sick but treatable animal will be cared for at the shelter until the happy day when they are adopted into a permanent, loving home.

We also advocate dog and cat owners taking responsibility for their pets by spaying and neutering each one.  This single action will ensure that the population of unwanted dogs and cats is minimized so that all pets will have a loving home.
